Thanks for stopping by. My name is Scott Weidig and I really like to eat big meals… Not outrageous crazy meals, and not a lot of sweets, but just big protein filled meals. Oh, and I LOVE BREADS!!! So much so, that by 43 I weighed 263lbs and was prescribed my 3rd blood pressure medicine by my doctor (a beta blocker)… Not good. So, where was I on my 43rd birthday?
- Husband and father of 2 young boys
- 3 Blood Pressure Medications
- 1 Cholesterol Medication
- 1 Sinus medication for nights
- 1 CPAP for a mild form of sleep apnea
- 263 lbs (even at 6’3″ out was al least 40lbs too heavy)
Basically, I was overweight (technically obese), under-slept, had low energy, couldn’t keep up with my two young sons – Joshua age 7, Noah age 4). They wanted to run and play, and I wanted to sit. Now, I didn’t really look obese, and I know and see many many people who are much heavier than I was / am, but I felt cruddy. Over the years, I made many attempts to lose weight or exercise and all were short lived. I was in a similar state in my late 20′s and was successful in getting healthy with martial arts – going from 260 to 215 in 2 years, but I was training twice a day six days a week… with 2 boys, that is impossible now. I have tried a lot of diets and exercise routines, bikes, gyms, and more with short term or no term success… But…
I also held an attitude that “it wasn’t that bad…” If I wanted to I could lose the weight… I learned that getting into my 40′s that is really easy to say and really hard to do… Honestly, anyone reading this can change his or her life if you want to… You just need to find the motivation to stick with it AND the trigger that can propel you down this road… For me, that trigger was my doctor adding a 3rd blood pressure medicine.
If my attempts in the past have only been half heartedly successful, then what is this blog all about?! For me, it is about documenting what I am doing, and trying to help others… It is one in a series of four personal blogs I write to get things out of my head, help others who may be feeling the same way, and leave a bit of myself online for my sons as they continue to grow older… It is also a commitment to myself to stick with what I am doing as I try to make better choices to alter my health and my life.
What I want to tell you is as of right now, 8 weeks in, I feel it is working well. I hope that you enjoy the site. Let me know if you have any question, thoughts, or comments.
